The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings. Developed by the US Green Building Council, LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
As a US Green Building Member, Valspar proudly offers a variety of Valspar SR roof coatings that meet LEED point criteria. Building components coated with Valspar SR finishes typically have a minimum Recycled Content of 25% and are 100% Recyclable.
LEED compliant Valspar SR roofing products:
- Reduce the urban heat island effect to minimize impact on microclimate and human and wildlife habitat. (LEED NC 2.2 Sustainable Sites Credit 7.2, 1 point)
- Reflect more of the sun's rays reducing the amount of energy needed to cool a building.
- Emit heat more rapidly than other traditional roofing products allowing the building to cool faster.
- Retain their solar reflectance and admittance properties over time.
- Are available in wide array of colors including green, red, white, and black.
- Have the same long life performance as the original formulations.
- Often qualify for other environmentally driven programs such energy star.
